At the conclusion of the Wizard of Oz, each of the characters learned that what they sought was really within them all along. Not one of them needed to receive the gift of a brain, a heart, courage, or the power to be able to return home. They simply needed to realize that God has already gifted them with all that they needed.
I strongly believe that education must focus on helping students to discover the abilities that lie within. There are plenty of quotes that reveal to us the importance of that which exists within us: Ralph Waldo Emerson proclaimed, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." Shakespeare counseled, “To thine own self be true ,” and Socrates advised, “Know thyself.”
Through my own journey and experiences along the ‘yellow brick road,’ I have come to discover the abilities with which God gifted me, and I hope that I have aided my former students in doing the same for themselves and will be able to do so for each of my future students (and colleagues) as well. This is a wonderful gift for them to possess as they venture into their futures.
As Matthew Kelly, world-renowned author and motivational speaker, asserts, we must aim to “become the best version of ourselves.” I look forward to an opportunity to work within a career area about which I am passionate as I continue to strive to become the best version of myself and help others to do the same.
I hope to advance within my career as a leader within a program that will enable individuals to attain their personal and professional goals and to realize that somewhere over the rainbow . . . dreams really do come true!
